Fixed vs Variable Business Energy Contracts
Understanding the difference helps you choose the approach that suits your business.
A fixed and a variable business-energy contract can behave very differently, so the right choice depends on the business rather than a generic view of the market.
Fixed contracts
A fixed structure can offer greater budget certainty because agreed elements of the price are set for the contract term. That can be attractive to businesses that value predictability.
Variable contracts
Variable arrangements can move with market conditions or an agreed pricing mechanism. They may suit businesses that are comfortable with greater movement and have a clear reason for accepting that exposure.
The decision is broader than price
Contract length, consumption profile, payment terms, site count and appetite for risk all matter. A lower headline rate is not automatically the better commercial outcome.
The right starting point is to define what the business needs from the contract, then compare structures on that basis.
